Who is this fellow?

Get in touch with this develish gentleman for all of your web design needs.

I also write at: Minor Speculum.

I don't get: Twitter.

I'm anti-social on: Facebook.

And I love: politics and woodworking.

Personal

I was born and raised in southwest Michigan, a smallish yet developed part of the United States, and enjoyed it immensely. At some point, however, the need to take flight was born in my bones and I moved to central Florida where I attended college.

Florida turned into a bit of a strange place for me. Mostly due to the hurricanes (4 in the summer of 2004), I didn't enjoy it perhaps as much as most folks in my situation would have.

My next stop was Tennessee where I worked my first job out of school as a consultant. I eventually wound up back in southwest Michigan and reside with my wife of two years, an overly sensitive dog, and two weird cats.

I've worked primarily as a web designer in my professional life, but love to experiment with carpentry in my spare time and think that perhaps I'd like to get a chance to make a fine piece of furniture for a paying customer one day.

I enjoy politics, design, economics, science, and many other fields of study; I will comment from time to time on each of these, but I mostly like to link to things that I would like to browse a little later.

I also play a bit of soccer, when uninjured, whether indoor or out, watch the Michigan Wolverines football team, and have been rehabilitating my ACL reconstructed knee on an almost constant basis since March 2009.

A rather darwinian illustration.

The bain of my existence and arch nemesis…der ACL.

And, as it turns out, I'll perhaps get another year of excitement out of my knee. Unfortunately, I did a lot of damage to it with the initial injury and it has begun to loosen up over the past two or three months. I can only hope that it can be corrected with exercise. I hate surgery.

I use my little corner of the web for experimentation in technique, programming, WordPress development, and to practice a bit of writing.

Professional

I have a working technical knowledge of several industry standard graphic design suites, a keen eye for detail, and a love for clean and simple code and design; my primary focus is on standards based web design, with a particular concentration on coding xhtml and css.

I have been working as a web designer in some shape or form for pretty close to ten years; however, I have been working professionally for about four. You may see my resume for a detailed list of education, skills, and experience.

Colophon

Built on a PC (yes, a PC, but I can use, and even enjoy using, a Mac), using Notepad++, Photoshop, and Illustrator. My Notebook is powered by Wordpress, and the theme is my own Frankensteinian creation. I work on a relatively low end Compaq laptop with Windows 7. Why? Because it's affordable, and Windows 7 isn't too bad.

I am currently using typekit to serve the typefaces Droid Serif and Droid Sans on this site via @font-face. So far I love this service.
